2011-2012 New Products

As some of you may have noticed, we updated our website for the 2011-2012 Home Snowmaking Season over the weekend. The website features some new products and changes to existing products. Here's what you will find new for the 2011-2012 season:

New Snowmaker Design

An all new snowmaker body design that features a one piece construction and an improved internal nucleating system. The one piece construction minimizes freeze up issues from occurring on even the coldest nights. The unique inner workings of the snowmaker body distribute the water in such a way that it "heats" the internal components to prevent them from freezing, including the automatic nucleation valve that handles all the air and water adjustments for you!

New Snowmaking Pumps

All of our snowmaking pumps have been changed for the 2011-2012 season. Our gas and electric snowmaking pumps are now available in 5.5 GPM and 7.0 GPM flow rates. All snowmaking pumps are now mounted on a convenient wheeled frame to make moving the pump around easier.

Best of all we increased the pressure on our snowmaking pumps from last season for those of you who want to use the snowmaking pump as a pressure washer when you are not making snow. A high pressure hose, cleaning lance, and pressure washer nozzles are included for pressure washing at no extra charge!

New Air Compressor Line

We teamed up with Mi-T-M Corp to offer you the best industrial quality compressors. These compressors may cost more than others, but they will last you for decades to come and exceed our expectations for home snowmaking. We offer many different sizes and styles, so check out our website for all the details.

The weather is starting to get cool and it won't be long until most of us can start making snow again. Now is the time to start thinking about the upcoming season and getting everything ready for the first cold night!

Order Snowmaking Pumps and Packages Early

Although it may not yet be cold enough to make snow in your area, we highly recommend that you start purchasing any snowmaking equipment you plan to buy early. This is especially true if you are planning on buying a snowmaking pump or complete snowmaker package. Once the cold weather arrives for the first time in most areas, we get busy and often run into backorders on popular items. Our advice is that if you have been thinking about buying any of our products, that you do so before the cold weather arrives to most areas to avoid running into backorders on popular items.

What's New for the 2010/2011 Home Snowmaking Season

In case you did not notice, we launched our new website for the 2010/2011 Home Snowmaking Season the other day. You will notice a few changes to some of our products along with some new products.

Here is what is new for the 2010/2011 season:


Snowmaking Pumps- We spent two years developing our snowmaking pumps. Our snowmaking pumps are available with either a 3gpm or 5gpm flow rate. All of our electric snowmaking pumps run on 115 volts so no special outlets are required! Best of all we can ship our snowmaking pumps via FEDEX Ground so shipping to a residence is not a problem!

The snowmaking pumps can double as a pressure washer for cleaning around the house when you are not making snow. A high pressure hose, cleaning lance, and pressure washer nozzles are included for no additional charge. The snowmaking pumps operate at a lower pressure than pressure washers, but still have more than enough pressure for cleaning. The lower operating pressure allows you to clean vehicles and other delicate surfaces without having to worry about damage from high pressure water.


Snowmaker Stands- We've had many different stands over the years for our snowmakers. Everyone seemed to like our metal tripod stands the best for their durability and ease of use on steep slopes. Our new tripods have angled legs that allow you securely position the tripod on a slope and to change the angle of the snowmaker based on wind conditions. The tripod legs quickly remove for storage.

When there is little to no wind, you can angle the snowmaker upwards for increased hangtime. This will allow you to make superior quality snow since the snow will have more time to cure as it falls to the ground. In windy conditions you can position the snowmaker to a more level position to pinpoint where exactly the snow will accumulate. The tripod stand is universal with all of our snowmakers. This means if you buy another snowmaker from us later on, you can buy just the snowmaker from us and mount it to your tripod to save some money.


Complete Packages- For your convenience we now offer complete snowmaking system packages. Our snowmaking system packages include a snowmaker, air compressor, and snowmaking pump/pressure washer. We have a few different packages available so we recommend you check out our website for more information.

Noel Made the Local TV News!

Noel from Irmo, SC who has been featured several times on our blog, made his local TV news with his home snowmaker. Noel bought our plans and snowmaking nozzles to build both a garden hose and pressure washer snowmaker. His pressure washer snowmaker was used during the news broadcast. Redesigned Vector, Avalanche, and Veyron Snowmakers Receive High Praise

As the temperatures slowly start to dip below freezing more and more of our customers are getting the opportunity to make snow. For the past few years we have been working hard to make our snowmakers easier to operate, more affordable, and provide the highest quality of snow possible. After lots of extensive testing, we released our completely redesigned Vector, Avalanche, and Veyron Snowmakers. These snowmakers feature our automatic self-adjusting nucleation valve, which means you don't have to make any adjustments to the snowmaker. Greg and Leia from Alabama sent us these pictures of the snow they made at home using our Veyron Snowmaker. In the deepest spots the snow was 1.5 feet to 2 feet deep! The cold spell across the entire eastern half of the United States is allowing people down in the southeast a rare opportunity to make snow for a long period of time. The results speak for themselves with the pictures we have been receiving.

Judging by the pictures Greg and Leia sent us, not only were the kids having fun in the only snow in town, but also Greg, Leia, and even the neighbor's dog! Our snowmakers are known to promote family togetherness.

Home Snowmaking in Windy Conditions

Making snow in windy conditions is difficult for a wide variety of reasons. While you may not think 10 to 15 mph wind is much, it certainly is for snowmaking. Making snow in windy conditions is difficult even for the most experienced snowmaker. In fact some people who are avid home snowmakers won't even bother setting up their snowmaking equipment if the wind is over 10mph. We received a lot of emails over the weekend about wind so we have compiled the following tips to help you make snow in windy conditions.

The biggest problem with making snow in windy conditions is getting the snow to go where you want it to go. Even when the wind is at 0 mph you will notice the mist from the snowgun just hangs in the air until it falls to the ground. This is known as cure time and it is during this phase of the snowmaking process that the water freezes into snow. If the wind is at 5 mph, you will notice that the mist travels a distance away from the snowmaker. With winds at 15 mph the snow travels even farther away. This is primarily why experienced home snowmakers won't make snow in windy conditions. The snow they are making just blows away and goes into their neighbor's yard.

If you visit a ski resort you will notice most of the snowmakers are mounted on towers that range anywhere from 10 to 40 feet in height. This is to give the mist from the snowmaker increased cure time and allow the snowmaker to make the highest quality snow possible. The main reason why resort snowmakers have to be mounted high off the ground is because they flow a high volume of water. Since home snowmakers don't flow as much water, they can be mounted much lower to the ground. The lower a snowmaker is to the ground, the better it will perform in windy conditions. Some ski resorts lower the tower snowmakers to the ground so that they are just hovering over the trail in windy conditions. If they didn't the snow wouldn't get on the trail and it would go elsewhere.

The best tip we can give you for snowmaking in windy conditions is to not fight the wind. You will lose and your snowmaking experience will not be pleasant. If you position the snowmaker so that the wind pushes the mist back onto the snowmaker, you will eventually cause ice to build up on the snowmaker, and thus freeze up your nozzles. When this happens you have to wait for your snowmaker to thaw before you can make snow. So always position the snowmaker so that the wind doesn't push the mist back onto the snowmaker.

Another problem is having the wind not allow the nucleation nozzle mist to mix with the bulk water mist. If this happens, you will not make snow, but ice. External mix snowmakers are very difficult to make snow with in windy conditions because the nucleation nozzle setup sprays a VERY narrow mist. When the wind hits it, the mist often times blows around the snowmaker so that it doesn't mix with the bulk water nozzles. While our internal mix snowmakers often do better in windy conditions, they can do the same thing.

Even if the nucleation nozzle mist is mixing with the bulk water nozzles if the wind just pushes the mist to the ground before it freezes you will just make ice. Often times you will notice ice on the ground all around the snowmaker and snow on the ground a distance from the snowmaker. This is because the wind pushed all the mist to the ground before it had time to freeze and the only mist that froze into snow was the mist that traveled a distance away from the snowmaker.

While it may sound difficult to make snow in windy conditions, it's not impossible to do. Our advice to you is if you have trouble making snow in windy conditions that you just wait until the wind dies down. We guarantee your home snowmaking experience will be much more enjoyable and pleasant.

Color Change to Snowmakers

As of October 1st, 2008 all of our snowmakers that have a tower and stand will be painted silver in color. This includes the Maverick Snowmaker, Maverick Hybrid Snowmaker, Vector Snowmaker, Avalanche Snowmaker, and Veyron Snowmaker.

Over the past few years we have had numerous requests from customers to have their snowmaker painted silver so that it looked just like one from a ski resort. With the rising cost of paint we decided to buy just silver paint in order to keep the manufacturing costs down on the snowmakers. This allows us to keep the snowmaker prices the same rather then increasing them. Additionally it makes our customers happy since the majority of them wanted their snowmaker silver in color.

The pictures of the snowmakers on our site will remain in different colors to help everyone identify the different snowmakers. Upon ordering, your snowmaker tower and stand will be shipped in a silver color compared to black, blue, or green.
