Pics from Noel in Irmo, SC
click on an image above for a larger view
Noel from Irmo, SC sent us these pictures he took of the snow he made from his garden hose snowmaker that he made from our plans. He also has a pressure washer snowmaker that he built from our plans, but since the weather conditions were marginal for snowmaking he was only able to make snow with his small garden hose snowmaker.
We love to see pictures from our customers. If you have any pictures/videos that you would like to share, please email them to us at contact@snowstormsnowmaking.com and we will post them here on our blog and website.

Difference Betwen Excel Series and Original Series Snowmakers
We have had several people ask us what the difference is between the Excel Series and Original Series Snowmakers. The only difference between the two series is the stand set up. The Excel Series snowmakers have the snowmaker mounted directly to a quad-pod stand. The Original Series Snowmakers house the snowmaking components inside a tower and use a four legged stand.
Both the Excel Series Snowmakers and Original Series Snowmakers have the same features and benefits. Some people prefer the look of a "ski resort style" snowmaker so they prefer the Original Series Snowmakers. To others who don't care what the snowmaker looks like, they prefer the Excel Series because of the lower price. The Excel Series Snowmakers have a lower price than the Original Series Snowmakers because they are less labor intensive for us to manufacture, and we can pass that savings onto you.
The Original Series Snowmakers were the first style of snowmakers we had available, hence the name "Original Series".

Reminder about Christmas Orders
December is the busiest month for us here at SnowStorm Snowmaking. We have been extremely busy the last two weeks now that the temperatures have started to drop and that the holiday shopping season has begun. Since we have been so busy lately, we haven't been able to update our blog as often as we'd like to. We apologize about that to our loyal followers!
Our snowmakers are extremely popular for Christmas gifts and a lot of people wonder if we can guarantee delivery by Christmas. We try our very best to keep everything in stock at all times during the fall and winter season. However we get extremely busy from Black Friday until the day before Christmas Eve. No matter how hard we try, eventually an item becomes back ordered. While these back orders are usually filled within a few days, sometimes the demand for an item can place it on backorder for almost a week. If you plan on ordering any of our items for Christmas, we cannot stress enough the importance of doing it early. This way if we run into back orders, there is a good chance we can still get your order to you for Christmas.
We will ship up until the last minute for Christmas delivery. The last possible day to guarantee delivery for Christmas is December 23rd at noon. December 23rd is the last day we can ship anything to guarantee delivery by Christmas. Orders placed on December 23rd must be shipped Next Day Air in order for them to arrive on December 24th. If you must place an order on December 23rd, please contact us to verify the item you wish to purchase is in stock and to obtain a Next Day Air Shipping quote. Please note that none of the shipping companies deliver on Christmas Day so orders placed on December 24th will not arrive by Christmas.

Redesigned Vector, Avalanche, and Veyron Snowmakers Receive High Praise
As the temperatures slowly start to dip below freezing more and more of our customers are getting the opportunity to make snow. For the past few years we have been working hard to make our snowmakers easier to operate, more affordable, and provide the highest quality of snow possible. After lots of extensive testing, we released our completely redesigned Vector, Avalanche, and Veyron Snowmakers. These snowmakers feature our automatic self-adjusting nucleation valve, which means you don't have to make any adjustments to the snowmaker. Just hook your pressure washer up and compressor up to the snowmaker and let the snowmaker do the rest of the work for you!
Here are just some of things our customers who already made snow told us they like about the redesigned snowmakers:
- Simple to operate, no need to make adjustments to the snowmaker
- Allows you to attach your pressure washer and compressor to the snowmaker and just walk away
- Much more sleek, compact, and lightweight design compared to past models
- The composite PVC stand and tower are maintenance free unlike metal stands
- The stand is VERY STABLE and will not tip over. One of our customers has another brand snowmaker and says the stand is very prone to tipping over when the pressure washer is turned on
- Inline filter on the pressure washer connection is a huge plus
- Price of the snowmaker was much less than comparable snowmakers that make just as much snow per hour
The feedback we have received so far on these redesigned snowmakers has been phenomenal. If you don't already have your hands on one of these new snowmakers, you will be impressed with just how easy they are to operate compared to other internal mix snowmakers. The redesigned snowmakers have been so popular that we have been having a hard time keeping them in stock. So if your thinking about buying one, we recommend doing it soon because we anticipate they will be on backorder FREQUENTLY once the temperatures get even colder in more areas.

First NATURAL Snow of the Season
This afternoon we got a nice surprise at our office: the first natural snow of the season! This is by far the EARLIEST it has ever snowed here in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
In the photo above, a Veyron Snowmaker sits outside our office in the first snow of the season. The wetbulb temperature was a little too warm for snowmaking, otherwise we would have fired it up for our earliest snowmaking run ever.
It looks and feels like winter is going to start early this year. Hopefully everyone will have a great winter this year and get plenty of chances to make snow!

Air Compressor and Pressure Washer Recommendations
For those of you who are looking for an air compressor or pressure washer for your snowmaker, we have compiled some that we recommend on the Requirements page of our website.
These compressors and pressure washers have been tried by our customers over the years and were given high praise for their reliability. If you have an air compressor or pressure washer that you have found to be reliable and it is not on our list, please let us know so that we can add it to the list.
Keep in mind that electric compressors and pressure washers are much quieter than gas driven compressors and pressure washers. This is important if you plan on making snow late at night and live close to your neighbors.

Snowmaking Season has Started
With ski areas in Colorado making snow and snowmaking temperatures starting to arrive in several areas of the country, the 2009/2010 snowmaking season is now underway! If you have been thinking of buying a snowmaker now is the perfect time to order one to ensure it arrives just in time for the cold weather.
Here in the Northeast we had a relatively cool summer and the temperatures have been starting to drop unusually early. Not to mention the leaves on the trees have turned early this year. We have a good feeling that this winter is going to be one of the best yet!

Winter 2009/2010 Is Coming!
We hope everyone has been having a great summer so far. We apologize for the long delay in updating our blog, but we have been busy getting ready for this upcoming winter season. We have put a lot of time and effort into Research and Development this year. We are sure you will be pleased with some of the changes that are coming to our line of snowmakers.
Here are just some of things you will see different this year over last year:
- AUTOMATIC NUCLEATION VALVE on all of our assembled snowmakers that run off of pressure washers. No more having to manually adjust the valve by using a 10mm nut driver. Once you hook up your pressure washer and compressor to the snowmaker, the valve will automatically adjust to flow the right amount of water to the nucleation nozzle.
Before you had to manually adjust the nucleation valve. This posed two problems. First you had to have a 10mm nut driver in order to adjust the valve (unless you had an Excel Series Snowmaker). If you didn't have one, you had to purchase one and it was often difficult to buy a single one. This forced you to buy an entire set of nut drivers which could cost as much as $50. Second, most people would over open the manual valve and flow too much water to the nucleation nozzle. This resulted in the snowmaker making ice or poor quality snow. The new automatic nucleation valve eliminates both of these problems.
Internal mix snowmakers are MUCH more efficient when compared to external mix snowmakers. However most people prefer the external mix snowmakers due to their simplicity to use. Our new automatic nucleation valve gives you the simplicity of an external mix snowgun, but with the efficiency of an internal mix snowgun. Just hook your pressure washer and compressor hoses up to our snowmakers and the automatic nucleation valve will do the rest! Our new automatic nuclation valve is a FIRST for the home snowmaking industry.
- Changes in the appearance of the Excel Series Snowmakers. A new aluminum base will replace the old style "T" fitting. The aluminum base helps to mix the air and water better and thus increase the snow quality. The Excel Series Snowmakers will also feature our new automatic nucleation valve mentioned above.
- Our existing line of snowmaker kits will have their instructions re-written to make assembling them much easier.
- A new, all metal snowmaker, that runs off a standard garden hose.
- AND MUCH MORE! Check back in with us in late August when we launch our newly updated website with all of the above changes and more!
Enjoy summer while it's here, but snowmaking weather is just around the corner!

Thanks for a Great 2008/2009 Winter Season!
Looking back at some of the photos we received this winter from our customers reminds us of just how great the 2008/2009 home snowmaking season was!
We just want to thank EVERYONE for making this season by far our best ever and we couldn't have done it without you! This winter we had below normal temps for most areas of the United States making for some excellent snowmaking conditions. A prolonged January cold spell in the southeast brought records lows that are rarely seen. Some places such as Alabama had temps as low as the upper teens!
As this season draws to a close we are busy getting things ready for next season. We have some exciting things in store for next season so be sure to keep checking back in here on the blog and our website for more information.
As the season draws to a close for the northern hemisphere, it's just getting ready to begin for the southern hemisphere. As a reminder we remain open year round and will ship any of our products worldwide even if it's the middle of summer for us.
Speaking of summer, don't forget to check out our water misters from our parent company, Aqua Misters. Our water misters will keep you cool as you sit outdoors this summer. We have added some new products for this year so be sure to check out the newly updated Aqua Misters website at www.aquamisters.com
Thanks again for making this season our best one yet! We hope to hear from you again over the summer and next season. Don't forget, summer is the perfect time to start working on your home snowmaking system for the upcoming winter. This way you have it all ready to go once the cold temps arrive.
From all of us here at SnowStorm Snowmaking, have a fun filled and safe summer!

Some photos from DJ in CT
Note: Click on a photo above for a larger view
Back in mid February DJ in Connecticut purchased a snowmaker from our parent company that designs and manufactures snowmakers for ski areas. The snowmaker he purchased is the big brother to our Maverick Hybrid Snowmaker. Both snowmakers make snow the same way, except the snowmaker DJ purchased is an all metal version that mounts to a tripod.
DJ ran his snowmaker off of a 185cfm tow behind compressor. He has city water with approximately 30gpm@90PSI. With his compressor he is able to flow a maximum of about 18.5gpm depending upon what the wetbulb temperature is. The above photos were taken after a single 8 hour overnight run running the snowmaker. He adds that the snowmaker was not running at full capacity until near the end the run when temperatures got cold enough to max the snowmaker out at 18.5gpm with the installed nozzle. He says the picture of the whale (pile of snow) is about 4 to 4.5 feet deep.
DJ sent us these pics back in February, except we are just getting around to uploading them now.
